Orang Gua Longlin dan Malu merupakan populasi manusia prasejarah termuda yang diketahui yang tidak mirip dengan manusia modern. Fosil-fosil berumur antara 14.500 dan 11.500 tahun ditemukan di Gua Longlin (隆林, Lóng lín) dan Gua Malu (马鹿, Mǎ lù, "rusa merah") di Tiongkok. Memiliki fitur-fitur campuran purba dan modern, mereka untuk sementara dianggap sebagai spesies terpisah dari manusia yang telah punah tanpa berkontribusi pada kumpulan gen manusia modern. [1] Terdapat bukti yang memperlihatkan bahwa rusa besar dimasak di dalam Gua Malu, sehingga populasi manusia prasejarah ini dinamakan demikian. [2]

Penemuan

Rahang bawah

Pada tahun 1979, sebagian tengkorak dari penghuni gua ditemukan di Gua Longlin di Guangxi Zhuang, wilayah Cina. Sisa peninggalan manusia selanjutnya digali dari Gua Malu di Provinsi Yunnan. [3] Fosil-fosil dari penghuni Gua Malu berusia antara 14.500 dan 11.500 tahun, menggunakan arang yang ditemukan pada endapan fosil. Selama masa hominin ini hidup, semua spesies manusia prasejarah lainnya seperti Neanderthal diperkirakan telah punah. Manusia Gua Longlin dan Malu oleh karena itu lebih baru daripada Homo floresiensis (dikenal dengan "Hobbits") berusia sampai 13.000 tahun lalu. [4]

Anatomi

Meskipun usia mereka yang baru, fosil-fosil tersebut memperlihatkan fitur-fitur dari manusia yang lebih primitif. Penghuni Gua Longlin dan Malu memiliki fitur-fitur yang berbeda dari manusia modern: muka datar, hidung lebar, rahang menjorok tanpa dagu, geraham yang besar, alis yang menonjol, tulang tengkorak yang besar, dan otak berukuran sedang.[4]

Status sebagai spesies terpisah

Walaupun fitur-fitur fisik dari orang Gua Longlin dan Malu menunjukan bahwa mereka mungkin adalah spesies dari manusia prasejarah yang belum ditemukan, para ilmuwan yang menemukan mereka berkeberatan mengklasifikan mereka sebagai sebuah spesies baru. [4] Chris Stringer dari Natural History Museum di London telah menyarankan bahwa mereka mungkin hasil dari perkawinan antara Denisovan dan manusia modern. [2] Ilmuwan lainnya tetap skeptis, menyarankan bahwa fitur-fitur unik yang ada sesuai dengan variasi-variasi yang diharapkan pada populasi manusia. [4]

Percobaan untuk mengambil DNA sampai sejauh ini gagal tetapi terus dilanjutkan. Sekali ini sudah dilakukan ia akan memungkinkan untuk menentukan hubungan antara grup ini dan manusia modern lainnya. [4]
