Oliver Hardy (nama lahir: Norvell Hardy; 18 Januari 1892 – 7 Agustus 1957) adalah seorang aktor dalam era film bisu.[1] Ia pernah menerima penghargaan (bersama Stanley Laurel) di Academy Award untuk kategori tim komedi. Hardy tampil di teater dan pertunjukan vaudeville di negaranya pada awal kariernya, penampilan tersebut akhirnya membawa Hardy dalam film komedi.[1] Pada tahun 1913 ia mulai bekerja di industri film di Jacksonville, Florida, kadang-kadang ia juga pergi ke New York untuk bermain film di sana.[1] Di Florida ia bekerja di perusahahaan Lubin.[2] Pada tahun 1917 setelah berperan dalam banyak film pendek, ia memutuskan untuk mengejar kariernya di California.[1] Di Hollywood, seperti halnya di Florida, ia bekerja keras dan mengkhususkan diri dalam penggambaran karakter konvensional dalam film bisu yang dikenal dengan heavy, seorang penjahat yang sering mengintimidasi secara fisik.[1] Pada tahun 1926, setelah tampil di beberapa film Hollywood tahun sembilan puluhan, ia dikontrak sebagai peran komik dan juga peran serius lainnya oleh Studio Hall Roach, salah satu studio penting pada zamannya.[1] Di studio tersebut Hardy segera dipasangkan dengan Stanley Laurel pada beberapa film.[1]
