Oikos

Oikos (bahasa Yunani Kuno: οἶκος, jamak: οἶκοι) mengacu kepada tiga konsep yang berbeda tetapi saling terkait, yaitu keluarga, harta benda keluarga, dan rumah. Maknanya berubah-ubah dalam naskah-naskah Yunani kuno, sehingga dapat menimbulkan kerancuan.[1]

Oikos adalah satuan dasar masyarakat di sebagian besar negara-kota Yunani Kuno. Dalam bahasa Yunani Attika, oikos dalam konteks keluarga mengacu kepada garis keturunan dari ayah ke putranya dari generasi ke generasi.[2] Sementara itu, Aristoteles dalam karyanya Politika menggunakan istilah ini untuk mengacu kepada semua orang yang tinggal di suatu rumah, sehingga mencakup kepala oikos, anggota keluarganya, dan juga budak-budaknya.[3]
