National Geographic Traveler adalah majalah yang diterbitkan oleh NG Media di Armenia, Belgia, Belanda, Cina, Kroasia, Republik Ceko, Jerman, Yunani, Indonesia, Amerika Latin, Israel, Polandia, Rumania, Slovenia, Spanyol, dan Inggris. Edisi AS diterbitkan dari 1984 hingga 2019.

Sejarah

National Geographic Traveler diluncurkan sebagai publikasi triwulanan pada musim semi tahun 1984 oleh National Geographic Society di bawah kepemimpinan presiden Gilbert M Grosvenor.[1] Wakil presiden untuk publikasi, Robert L. Breeden mengawasi peluncuran tersebut[2]. Joan Tapper adalah editor pertama. [2] Edisi cetak AS terakhir muncul pada Desember 2019 dengan George Stone sebagai editor.[3] Dalam jangka waktu 35 tahun, edisi cetak AS memiliki enam editor:

Pada bulan September 2013, National Geographic Society membentuk grup National Geographic Travel dengan mengkonsolidasikan aset perjalanannya, termasuk majalah National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic Expeditions, buku perjalanannya, konten perjalanan digital, peta, aplikasi, dan komunitas perjalanan. Editor National Geographic Traveler Keith Bellows diangkat sebagai wakil presiden senior grup yang baru dibentuk.[7]

Pada tanggal 9 September 2015, National Geographic Society mengumumkan akan menata ulang properti media dan publikasinya (termasuk National Geographic Traveler ) menjadi perusahaan baru yang dikenal sebagai National Geographic Partners LLC . 21st Century Fox membayar $725 juta untuk memiliki 73% dari perusahaan nirlaba baru ini.[8]

Akuisisi 21st Century Fox oleh The Walt Disney Company dimulai 14 Desember 2017 dan berlanjut hingga 20 Maret 2019.[9] Di antara aset utama lainnya, akuisisi 21st Century Fox oleh Disney mencakup 73% saham di National Geographic Partners (termasuk National Geographic Traveler ). Pada Agustus 2019, operasi penerbitan NG Media diasumsikan oleh Disney Publishing Worldwide . Disney menghentikan edisi cetak National Geographic Traveler dengan edisi Desember 2019.
