Narapidana, terpidana, tahanan, terhukum, tawanan, atau benduan adalah seseorang yang dipidana berdasarkan keputusan pengadilan yang telah berkekuatan hukum tetap berdasarkan peraturan perundang-undangan tentang hukum pidana.[1] Seseorang yang dipidana adalah orang yang dirampas kebebasannya karena bertentangan dengan hukum yang berlaku yakni pelaku kejahatan. Ini bisa dengan pengurungan, penahanan, atau pengekangan paksa tergantung dengan kasus yang sedang dalam penyidikan. Istilah ini berlaku terutama untuk menjalani hukuman di penjara atau di pengadilan.[2]
