Musik kuno

Musik kuno terdiri dari budaya dan praktek musik yang berkembang pada peradaban melek huruf di dunia kuno sebelum abad pertengahan awal (sebelum sekitar 500Masehi). Musik tersebut mengikuti musik masyarakat prasejarah dan mendahului kemunculan musik abad pertengahan pada era pasca-klasik.

Pusat-pusat musik kuno besar berkembang di Tiongkok, Mesir, Yunani, India, Iran/Persia, peradaban Maya, Mesopotamia, dan Romawi. Meskipun sangat beragam, musik peradaban kuno seringkali dikarakterisasikan oleh monofoni, improvisasi dan dominasi teks pada setting musikal.[1]
