Mothercare plc (LSE: MTC) adalah sebuah perusahaan ritel Britania Raya yang bergerak di produk-produk ibu hamil dan perlengkapan anak-anak balita sampai usia 8 tahun. Perusahaan ini terdaftar di Bursa Saham London dan merupakan konstituen FTSE SmallCap Index.

Sejarah

Perusahaan ini didirikan oleh pengusaha Selim Zilkha dan Sir James Goldsmith pada tahun 1961.[2] Perusahaan ini pertama terdaftar di Bursa Saham London tahun 1972.[2]

Pada tahun 1982, perusahaan ini bergabung dengan Habitat[2] dan membentuk Habitat Mothercare plc. Tahun 1986, Habitat Mothercare plc bergabung dengan British Home Stores dan membentuk Storehouse plc.[2] Perusahaan ini membeli Children's World dari Boots tahun 1996,[3] dan mengubah merek semua toko super Mothercare World. Tahun 2000, toko BHS dijual ke Philip Green[3] dan merek Storehouse dikembalikan ke Mothercare.[3]

Mothercare setuju membeli Early Learning Centre (ELC) pada bulan April 2007 dengan nilai £85 juta.[4]

Pada tahun 2007, Mothercare meluncurkan Gurgle, sebuah situs web jejaring sosial yang membahas kehamilan dan membesarkan anak.[5] Pada bulan November 2009 Mothercare mengakuisisi sisa 50% saham Gurgle.[6]

Bulan Juli 2010, Mothercare membeli merek dagang dan merek pesaing swastanya, Blooming Marvellous.[7]

Tahun 2011, dilaporkan bahwa Mothercare akan mengalami restrukturisasi besar dalam sektor ritelnya sehingga banyak toko ELC yang pindah ke toko Mothercare untuk menekan biaya.

Operasi

Perusahaan ini beroperasi daring, di adijalan dan luar kota, dan pada November 2009 perusahaan ini memiliki 1.060 toko di seluruh dunia, 389 di Britania Raya dan 671 sisanya tersebar di 38 negara.[8]
