Megascolecidae adalah sebuah famili dari cacing tanah yang dapat ditemukan di Madagaskar, Australia, Selandia Baru, Asia Tenggara dan Amerika Utara. Semua spesies dari Megacolecidae tergolong kedalam kelas Clitellata.[2] Famili ini meliputi sebuah famili besar dari cacing tanah[3], dan dapat tumbuh hingga dua meter panjangnya.[4] Distribusi antarbenua dari Megascolecidae mendukung teori pergeseran benua, dan bagaimana organisme berpindah lintas benua.[5]

Ukuran besar mereka membedakan famili Megascolecidae dengan famili cacing tanah lainnya; mereka memainkan peran penting dalam mempertahankan struktur tanah, membantu sekuestrasi karbon dan mempertahankan keseimbangan ekosistem terestrial. Megascolecidae merupakan satu dari banyak famili pada filum Annelida, yang tinggal di lingkungan darat, serta menyukai tanah dengan konten biomassa tinggi, lembap dan hangat. Banyak genera yang berbeda dari famili ini sudah dideskripsikan, namun total jumlah spesies dari kelompok ini masih belum diketahui secara pasti.
