Maurice Richardson

Maurice Richardson (1907–1978) adalah seorang jurnalis Inggris dan penulis cerita pendek.

Profil

Richardson lahir dari keluarga kaya.[1] Sebagai seorang anak, Richardson dikirim ke sekolah persiapan, yang tidak disukainya; dia kemudian mengenang pendidikannya dalam bukunya tahun 1968 Korban Kecil.[1][2] Dia belajar di Oxford pada 1920-an, di mana dia berteman dengan penyair Brian Howard.[3] Setelah meninggalkan Oxford, dia menghabiskan beberapa waktu sebagai petinju amatir, dan menulis novel pertamanya, A Strong Man Needed, sebuah cerita lucu tentang seorang petinju wanita.[4] Richardson memulai karir jurnalistiknya pada tahun 1930-an. Setelah bergabung dengan Partai Komunis,[1] Richardson menjadi kontributor Left Review[5] dan anggota Grup Penulis dan Pembaca sayap kiri yang berbasis di London yang meliputi Randall Swingler, Sylvia Townsend Warner, Mulk Raj Anand, Arthur Calder-Marshall dan Mawar Macaulay.[6]

Setelah keluar dari Partai Komunis pada 1950-an,[1] Richardson bekerja sebagai resensi buku. Richardson juga dikenal karena mengatur pertemuan antara dirinya dan penulis lain di pub London. Para tamu di pertemuan ini termasuk Jeffrey Bernard, Daniel Farson, Swingler, Lionel Bart, Frank Norman dan Alan Rawsthorne.[7]
