Matilda Fagan atau lengkapnya Louisa Matilda Fagan (Nama semasa gadis: Lousia Matilda Ballard; 9 Januari 1850 – 11 Agustus 1931), adalah seorang master catur perempuan Italia keturunan Britania.

Matilda belajar bermain catur sejak kecil, yaitu dari bapaknya, William Roberts Ballard.[1] Dia akhirnya menikah dengan seorang Irlandia, J.G. Fagan, yang adalah seorang perwira Pasukan Tombak Mumbai, dan hasilnya, Keluarga Fagan tinggal beberapa lama di India. Matilda merupakan bagian dari kejadian catur di India, dan beberapa masalahnya diterbitkan di Majalah Catur Kota London. Dia adalah seorang pemenang dari sebuah turnamen catur di Mumbai, India, dimana 12 pria turut ikut serta. Dia memenangkan semua pertandingannya, tetapi didiskualifikasi karena dia adalah seorang wanita yang bermain di sebuah klub, dimana keanggotaan klub itu hanya untuk laki-laki. Dia mengajukan banding atas keputusan itu di pengadilan dan menang.[2]

Matilda kemudian menjadi seorang aktivis emansipasi perempuan, dan salah satu pendiri dari Klub Catur Wanita London, yang anggotanya berjumlah 100 orang pada puncaknya dan bertahan sampai Pasca-Perang Dunia Ke-1.[3] Dia menduduki peringkat kedua, dibawah Mary Rudge, di dalam Kongres Internasional Catur Wanita Pertama, yang diadakan di gedung klub, di London, pada 22 Juni - 3 Juli 1897.[4][5]
