Masjid Agung Durrës (bahasa Albania: Xhamia e Madhe) atau Masjid Baru (Xhamia e Re) merupakan salah satu masjid bersejarah dan menjadi ikon terpenting di kota pelabuhan Durrës, Albania.[1]

Sejarah

Masjid ini dibangun pada tahun 1931 di bawah pemerintahan Raja Ahmed Zogu pada sebuah lokasi masjid tua di era pemerintahan Kekaisaran Utsmaniyah. Pada hari peresmiannya, masjid ini menjadi masjid terbesar di Albania. Arsitek yang mendesain masjid ini berasal dari Italia oleh karena kerja sama antara Italia dengan Albania.[2] Maksud utama dari gaya arsitektur masjid ini adalah menyatukan tradisi Islam dengan sentuhan gaya kolom khas Durrës.[3] Ketika pembangunan masjid ini selesai, terdapat sebuah pesta perayaan yang banyak menghadirkan tamu undangan dan delegasi dari pelbagai negara.[4] Masjid ini ditutup pada tahun 1967 di bawah rezim komunis oleh Enver Hoxha, bahkan menara masjid ini pun dirobohkan. Sebagian besar masjid bersejarah peninggalan era Kekaisaran Utsmaniyah lainnya pun banyak yang dihancurkan.[1] Semenjak masjid ini ditutup sebagai tempat ibadah, bangunan masjid ini sempat dialihfungsikan menjadi tempat Pusat Kegiatan Pemuda di Durrës. Selain itu, masjid ini sempat mengalami kerusakan akibat gempa yang mengguncang Albania di tahun 1979.

Bangunan masjid ini dibuka dan difungsikan kembali sebagai tempat ibadah pada tahun 1993 dengan dukungan dan bantuan dari Organisasi Bantuan Islam Internasional yang berada di bawah naungan Liga Dunia Islam. Masjid ini disebut sebagai Masjid Agung dalam rangka membedakannya dengan masjid utama lainnya di Kota Durrës, yakni Masjid Fatih yang merupakan masjid peninggalan Kekaisaran Utsmaniyah.
