Marvin Hamlisch

Marvin Hamlisch sekitar tahun 1970-an

Marvin Frederick Hamlisch (2 Juni 1944 – 7 Agustus 2012) merupakan seorang komposer asal Amerika. Ia merupakan satu dari dua orang yang telah menerima penghargaan Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony, Golden Globe dan Pulitzer Prize (satunya lagi adalah Richard Rodgers).

Ia lahir dari keluarga asal kota Vienna yang beragama Yahudi. Ayah Hamlisch adalah seorang pemain band dan akordion. Pada tahun 1951 ia bersekolah di Juilliard School Pre-College Division. Selanjutnya ia kuliah di Queens College, dan lulus menjadi seorang sarjana seni pada 1967.

Peran terbesarnya adalah saat ia menjadi komposer untuk film The Spy Who Loved Me pada 1977 di mana John Barry, komposer film James Bond regular tidak bisa bekerja di Inggris dikarenakan alasan pembayaran pajak yang terlambat.

Hamlisch meninggal dunia pada tanggal 7 Agustus 2012 di Los Angeles, California karena menderita sakit[1][2]
