Makarije Sokolović (Abjad Kiril Serbia: Макарије Соколовић; meninggal tahun 1574) adalah Uskup Agung Peć dan Patriark Serbia dari tahun 1557 hingga 1571. Ia menjadi Patriark Serbia pertama setelah Patriarkat Peć dipulihkan, setelah dibubarkan pada tahun 1463 akibat penaklukan Turki atas Serbia.[1] Ia disebut-sebut sebagai saudara kandung, keponakan, atau sepupu Wazir Agung Utsmani Mehmed-paša Sokolović, yang memanfaatkan pengaruhnya di pemerintahan Utsmani untuk membangun kembali Patriarkat Serbia yang berpusat di Biara Peć.[2] Patriark Makarije dihormati sebagai orang suci di Gereja Ortodoks Serbia.

Biografi

Ia lahir pada abad ke-16, dari keluarga klan Piva. Dia adalah kerabat dekat Mehmed-paša Sokolović, Wazir Agung Ottoman.

Sebelum pembentukan kembali Patriarkat, Serbia berada di bawah kendali Keuskupan Agung Ohrid di Makedonia. Uskup Metropolit Pavle dari Smederevo adalah satu dari sekian banyak pemuka agama yang tidak mengakui status Ortodoks Serbia pada saat itu, dan berusaha untuk memerdekakan kembali Gereja Serbia. Makarije terpilih menjadi pemimpin Patriarkat Serbia Peć yang didirikan ulang pada tahun 1557. Sultan Turki memberi Makarije hak yang sama dengan Patriark Konstantinopel.

Yurisdiksi Patriarkat meliputi wilayah bekas kekuasaan Serbia di abad pertengahan, meliputi Bačka, Banat, Baranja, Srem, Slavonia, Bosanska Krajina, Bosnia, Lika, Krbava dan Dalmasia dengan lebih dari 40 eparki, dan beberapa eparki baru.

Di antara biara-biara yang dibangun ulang adalah Biara Studenica; Biara Banja di Priboj; Biara Gračanica, Peć, serta Budisavci di Kosovo dan Metohija.[3] Pembangunan ulang ini memulai kebangkitan budaya Serbia, khususnya di bidang seni dan sastra.

Karena sakit, ia digantikan pada tahun 1571, oleh keponakannya Antonije Sokolović. Dia meninggal pada tahun 1574.
