MATE pengucapan bahasa Inggris: [/ˈmɑːteɪ/] adalah lingkungan desktop yang terdiri dari perangkat lunak bebas dan sumber terbuka yang berjalan di sistem operasi Linux dan BSD.[4] Seorang pengguna Arch Linux di Argentina memulai proyek MATE untuk melakukan fork dan melanjutkan GNOME 2 sebagai tanggapan atas penerimaan negatif dari GNOME 3, yang telah menggantikan bilah tugas tradisionalnya (Panel GNOME) dengan GNOME Shell.
