Lukman Umar

Lukman Umar adalah seorang wartawan dan pengusaha asal Indonesia. Dia sempat menjadi raja media cetak di Indonesia, dengan menerbitkan aneka majalah dan tabloid dalam berbagai macam segmen pasar.

Kehidupan

Lukman merupakan putra Minangkabau asal Padang, Sumatera Barat.[1] Semasa kecil ia hidup di tengah-tengah keluarga yang berkekurangan. Ketika melanjutkan pendidikannya di IAIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta, ia mencari uang dengan berjualan koran dan aktif di koperasi mahasiswa. Setibanya di Jakarta, ia terjun ke dunia penerbitan dengan menjadi redaktur di majalah Varia. Pada tahun 1974, ia mendirikan majalah wanita Kartini.[2] Selain mendirikan Kartini, ia juga menerbitkan majalah wanita Sarinah, majalah anak-anak Ananda, Putri Indonesia, Hasta Karya, Asri, Amanah, Panasea, Dialog, Karina, dan Forum Keadilan. Beberapa media yang diterbitkannya, dicetak melalui perusahaan Garuda Metropolitan Press yang juga dimilikinya.

Pada tahun 1982, ia sempat bersengketa dengan Willy Risakotta dalam perebutan pimpinan majalah Kartini.[3] Namun pada persidangan akhir di Mahkamah Agung, Lukman memenangkan perkara tersebut. Pada tahun 1986, dia kembali menjadi pimpinan umum dan pimpinan perusahaan Kartini Group.[4]
