Hunza (Burushaski dan bahasa Urdu: ہنزہ) adalah lembah bergunung yang terletak di region Gilgit–Baltistan di Pakistan. Lembah ini terletak di ujung utara Pakistan.

Bahasa-bahasa yang dituturkan di wilayah ini meliputi Burushaski, Wakhi dan Shina. Tingkat melek huruf di lembah Hunza diyakini melebihi 95%.[1] Setiap anak telah terdidik hingga paling tidak tingkatan sekolah menengah atas.[1] Sebagian besar penduduknya adalah penganut Islam Shia.

Sejarah

Hunza sebelumnya merupakan wilayah kerajaan yang berbatasan dengan Xinjiang di timur laut dan Pegunungan Pamir di barat laut. Negara ini berdiri hingga tahun 1974 dan pada akhirnya dibubarkan oleh Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Hunza merupakan kepangeranan merdeka selama lebih dari 900 tahun. Britania menguasai Hunza dan lembah Nagar di sebelahnya antara tahun 1889 hingga 1892 dengan melancarkan penaklukan militer.

Iklim

Pada bulan Mei, suhu di lembah Hunza mencapai angka maksimal 27 °C (81 °F) dan minimal 14 °C (57 °F); pada bulan Oktober suhu maksimal tercatat sebesar 10 °C (50 °F) dan suhu minimal −10 °C (14 °F). Wisatawan umumnya datang dari bulan Mei hingga Oktober karena pada musim dingin jalan raya Karakoram tertutup oleh salju.
