Lazare Carnot

Lazare Carnot merupakan seorang matematikawan, fisikawan, prajurit dan negarawan Prancis, lahir 13 Mei 1753 di Nolay (Prancis) dan meninggal 2 Agustus 1823 di Magdeburg (Prusia).

Anggota Konvensi Nasional dan Comité de Salut Public, ia dijuluki "Penyelenggara Kemenangan" selama Perang Revolusi Prancis dan Peperangan era Napoleon. Dia adalah direktur kemudian comte Kekaisaran. Meninggal di pengasingan, dia adalah salah satu tokoh besar Wangsa Carnot.

Lazare Nicolas Marguerite Carnot adalah putra Claude Carnot, pengacara dan notaris, dan keturunan keluarga borjuis Calvinisme yang anggotanya menjalankan profesi pedagang kemudian notaris dan hakim.[1][2] Suami Jacqueline Sophie Dupont, dari Maninghem (Pas-de-Calais), mereka memiliki dua putra: Sadi Carnot, fisikawan, salah satu bapak termodinamika dan mesin kalor, dan Hippolyte Carnot, politikus, dirinya ayahanda Sadi Carnot, Presiden Republik akhir abad ke-19.
