Laut Timor (Bahasa Portugis: Mar de Timor) adalah perpanjangan Samudra Hindia yang terletak antara pulau Timor, kini terbagi antara Indonesia dan Timor Leste, dan Teritorial Utara Australia. Di timur berbatasan dengan Laut Arafura, secara teknis perpanjangan Samudera Pasifik. Laut Timor memiliki 2 teluk kecil di pesisir Astralia utara, Teluk Joseph Bonaparte dan Teluk van Diemen. Kota Australia Darwin ialah satu-satunya kota besar yang terletak di tepi laut Timor.

Laut Timor atau biasa di sebut dengan Celah Timor terkenal kaena mempunyai kekayaan minyak, terletak diantara kawasan perairan negara Timor Leste, Indonesia dan Australia. Wilayah perairan ini menjadi rebutan antara Timor Leste dengan Australia karena menyimpan minyak dan gas yang luar biasa di dasar lautnya.[1]

Laut ini memiliki luas 480 km (300 mil), meliputi darah sekitar 610.000 km persegi (235.000 mil persegi). Titik terdalamnya ialah Palung Timor di utara, yang mencapai kedalaman 3.300 m (10.800 kaki). Bagian lainnya lebih dangkal, dengan rata-rata kedalaman yang kurang dari 200 m (650 kaki). Merupakan tempat utama untuk badai tropis dan topan.

Sejumlah pulau terletak di laut ini, termasuk Pulau Melville di lepas pantai Australia dan Kepulauan Ashmore dan Cartier yang diperintah Australia. Diperkirakan penduduk asli Australia mencapai Australia dengan "loncatan pulau" menyeberangi Laut Timor.

Di dasar Laut Timor terdapat cadangan minyak dan gas dalam jumlah besar. Australia dan Timor Timur telah mengalami pertentangan panjang atas hak eksploitasi have di daerah yang dikenal sebagai Celah Timor.
