Kuil Shangchan (Hanzi sederhana: 上禅堂; Hanzi tradisional: 上禪堂; Pinyin: Shàngchán Táng) adalah sebuah kuil Buddha yang terletak di Gunung Jiuhua di Kabupaten Qingyang, Anhui, Tiongkok.[2]

Sejarah

Dinasti Qing

Kuil ini pertama kali didirikan oleh Zongyan (宗衍) pada tahun 1667, di bawah Dinasti Qing (1644–1911). Pada tahun 1758, pada masa pemerintahan Kaisar Qianlong (1736–1795), kepala biara Tianshi (忝石) menambahkan Aula Guanyin pada kuil tersebut. Kuil ini hancur akibat perang antara tentara Qing dan Pemberontakan Taiping pada masa pemerintahan Kaisar Xianfeng (1851–1861). Pada tahun 1862 kepala biara Kaitai (开泰) merenovasi dan memperbaharuinya. Pada masa Kaisar Guangxu (1875–1908), Guru Chan Qingyong (Hanzi: 清镛) mendirikan Aula Seribu Buddha.

Republik Tiongkok

Selama Republik Tiongkok (1912-1949) pada tahun 1928, kepala biara Zhifang mendekorasi ulang Aula Mahavira.

Republik Rakyat Tiongkok

Setelah berdirinya Partai Komunis Tiongkok pada tahun 1956, pemerintah setempat memperbaiki kuil ini, tetapi satu tahun kemudian, Aula Guanyin berubah menjadi abu akibat bencana kebakaran. Pada tahun 1983, kuil ini ditetapkan sebagai Kuil Buddha Utama Nasional di Daerah Han Tionghoa oleh Dewan Negara Tiongkok. Rekonstruksi modern seluruh kompleks kuil dilakukan pada tahun 1987.

Arsitektur

Bangunan utama yang ada saat ini meliputi Shanmen, Aula Empat Raja Surgawi, Aula Mahavira, Aula Guanyin, dan Perpustakaan Naskah Buddha.
