Kreator adalah kelompok musik thrash metal dari Essen, Jerman. Mereka mulanya bernama Tormentor. Memulai karier mereka di awal 1980-an, mereka memainkan musik dengan pengaruh dari Slayer dan Venom. Gaya musik mereka mirip dengan kelompok-kelompok musik sejaman lainnya seperti Destruction dan Sodom (biasanya disebut sebagai trinitas band thrash metal Jerman).

Karya Kreator selama ini hampir selalu berada dalam gaya thrash metal murni dengan pengecualian terhadap empat album Kreator yaitu Renewal, Cause for Conflict, Outcast dan Endorama. Selama tahun 1990-an mereka telah mengeksperimenkan musiknya ke arah elemen industrial, gothic dan avant-garde.

Maskot

Nama maskot band ini adalah Kreator, sama dengan nama bandnya. Ada mitos yang berkembang di Jerman Utara tentang mahluk berwujud seperti setan yang bernama Kreator (creature dalam bahasa Inggris) dan juga kalimat kreator bisa memiliki dua makna.
