Kilau matahari adalah cahaya terang dan berkilau yang muncul saat sinar matahari memantul dari gelombang air. Gelombang tersebut mungkin disebabkan oleh pergerakan alami air, pergerakan burung, atau hewan lain di dalam air. Riak dari batu yang dilempar ke air juga akan menciptakan kilau sesaat.

Cahaya matahari dipantulkan dari permukaan halus oleh refleksi spekular. Permukaan yang bergelombang tetapi halus seperti air yang bergelombang akan memantulkan sinar matahari dalam sudut yang berbeda di setiap titik pada permukaan gelombang.[1] Hasilnya, pengamat di posisi yang tepat akan melihat banyak gambar kecil matahari, yang dibentuk oleh bagian gelombang yang diorientasikan dengan benar untuk memantulkan cahaya matahari ke mata pengamat. Kilau matahari terlihat pada benda planet lain yang memiliki cairan permukaan, yaitu Titan. Di kutub utara Titan terdapat danau dan lautan metana cair. Kilau matahari ditemukan di laut terkecil Titan, Punga Mare pada tahun 2014, kilau ini terlihat sebagai kumpulan piksel yang cerah pada panjang gelombang inframerah melintasi permukaan laut Punga Mare yang cerah.[3] Kilau itu kemungkinan besar disebabkan oleh angin musim semi titan.[3] Kilau matahari juga telah diamati di laut terbesar, Kraken Mare, selama musim panas di utara Titan.[4] Arus pasang di selat yang sempit dan angin musim panas adalah kemungkinan penyebab yang memunculkan kilau matahari di Kraken, Titan.[4]
