Bhre Kertabhumi adalah bangsawan Majapahit yang berasal dari Wangsa Rajasa terakhir yang memerintah di Mojokerto, sebelum pusat kekuasaan berpindah Ke Kediri. Beliau merupakan putra bungsu Rajasawardhana (Raja Majapahit ke-8). Namanya dikenal melalui Prasasti Jiyu, Serat Pararaton, Kakawin Banawa Sekar, Suma Oriental, Babad Tanah Jawi, Serat Kanda dan Serat Pranitiradya.

Bhre Kertabhumi dikenal sebagai bangsawan Majapahit setelah mengalahkan pamannya, Suraprabhawa (Raja Majapahit ke-10), beserta 3 saudara lainnya.Prabu Kertabhumi merupakan anggota dari Dinasti Rajasa (Dinasti Rajasa adalah dinasti keturunan Ken Arok).

Merebut Takhta Majapahit

Menurut Pararaton, pada tahun 1468, Bhre Kertabhumi melakukan pemberontakan terhadap pamannya yang bernama Suraprabhawa (Singhawikramawardhana), adik Rajasawardhana, karena ia adalah putra bungsu Rajasawardhana, yang merasa lebih berhak atas takhta Majapahit dibanding pamannya itu. Pemerintahan Suraprabhawa berakhir tahun 1468 dan digantikan oleh keponakannya, yaitu Bhre Kertabhumi putra Rajasawardhana. Suraprabhawa beserta keluarganya kemudian melarikan diri ke daerah Keling, Daha. Pararaton tidak menyebut kalau Bhre Kertabhumi adalah raja yang menggantikan Suraprabhawa.
