Kenta Shinohara (篠原 健太, Shinohara Kenta, lahir 1 September 1974) adalah seorang mangaka Jepang.[1] Dia terkenal karena seri manga Sket Dance, yang diserialisasi di Weekly Shōnen Jump dari tahun 2007 hingga 2013 dan memenangkan Penghargaan Manga Shogakukan pada tahun 2010.

Biografi

Shinohara memulai kariernya sebagai seorang pegawai kantoran. Dia memutuskan untuk keluar dari pekerjaan kerah putih yang telah ia jalani selama dua tahun sambil mempersiapkan debutnya sebagai seniman manga.[2][3]

Shinohara bekerja sebagai seorang asisten untuk Hideaki Sorachi dalam mengerjakan manga Gintama, untuk waktu yang singkat menggunakan alias Shintaroh Nakae (なかえ しんたろう, Nakae Shintarō), sebuah anagram dari "Kenta Shinohara".[4] Selama masa tugasnya bersama Sorachi, Shinohara menyebutnya sebagai "guru" yang mengajarinya berbagai keterampilan yang diperlukan.[4]

Pada Juni dan September 2003, Shinohara merupakan salah satu kandidat akhir untuk JUMP 12 Outstanding Rookie Manga Award (ジャンプ十二傑新人漫画賞) yang digelar setiap bulan, meskipun dia gagal memenangkan keduanya.[5] Pada tahun 2005, dia memulai debutnya di edisi musim dingin Akamaru Jump dengan judul "Red Panda Puppet Show".[2][6]

Shinohara membuat dua manga one-shot berjudul Sket Dance pada musim dingin dan musim panas 2006. Dia mengirimkannya pada Akamaru Jump dan Weekly Shōnen Jump. Manga one-shot yang kedua merupakan cerita pilot yang disusun dalam format buku volume, mirip dengan bab pertama dari seri utama.[5] Serialisasi Sket Dance dimulai pada 14 Juli 2007, di majalah Weekly Shōnen Jump. Dia memenangi Penghargaan Manga Shogakukan edisi ke-55 untuk kategori Shōnen (Laki-laki) pada tahun 2010.[7]

Dalam volume kelima belas Sket Dance, yang diterbitkan pada 1 September 2010, Shinohara mengumumkan bahwa dirinya akan segera menikah.[8] Dia menyelesaikan serialisasi Sket Dance pada tahun 2013 dengan 288 bab. Dia mengerjakan desain karakter orisinil untuk seri anime Battle Spirits: Burning Soul pada tahun 2014.[9]

Pada tahun 2016, dia memulai seri manga baru bertema fiksi ilmiah yang berjudul Kanata no Astra di situs web dan aplikasi ponsel pintar Shonen Jump+,[10] diterbitkan secara daring di majalah Weekly Shonen Jump edisi Amerika Serikat dengan judul Astra Lost in Space.[11] Pada tahun 2019, dia memenangi Penghargaan Manga Taishō ke-12 untuk karyanya Kanata no Astra.[12]
