Kelenjar air mata

Kelenjar air mata atau kelenjar lakrimalis adalah kelenjar di mata yang mengeluarkan air mata.^[1] Kelenjar lakrimalis terletak pada bagian lateral atas mata yang disebut dengan fossa lakrimalis.^[2] Bagian utama kelenjar ini bentuk dan ukuranya mirip dengan biji almond, yang terhubung dengan suatu penonjolan kecil yang meluas hingga ke bagian posterior dari palpebra superior.^[2] Dari kelenjar ini, air mata diproduksi dan kemudian dialirkan melalui 8-12 duktus kecil yang mengarah ke bagian lateral dari fornix konjungtiva superior dan di sini air mata akan disebar ke seluruh permukaan bola mata oleh kedipan kelopak mata.^[2] Selanjutnya, air mata akan dialirkan ke dua kanalis lakrimalis, superior dan inferior, kemudian menuju ke punctum lakrimalis yang terlihat sebagai penonjolan kecil pada kantus medial.^[2] Setelah itu, air mata akan mengalir ke dalam sakus lakrimalis yang terlihat sebagai cekungan kecil pada permukaan orbita.^[2] Dari sini, air mata akan mengalir ke duktus nasolakrimalis dan bermuara pada meatus nasal bagian inferior.^[2] Dalam keadaan normal, duktus ini memiliki panjang sekitar 12 mm dan berada pada sebuah saluran pada dinding medial orbita.^[2]
