Metamorphoses karya Apuleius adalah satu-satunya novel Romawi kuno dalam bahasa Latin yang masih ada dalam keadaan utuh.[1] Novel ini diberi sebutan Keledai Emas (Asinus aureus) oleh Santo Agustinus.[2]
Protagonis novel tersebut bernama Lucius.[3] Pada akhir novel, tersibak bahwa ia berasal dari Madaurus,[4] tempat asal Apuleius.
