Karbon hitam

secara kimia, karbon hitam atau Black Carbon (BC) adalah komponen dari partikel halus (PM ≤ 2,5 μm dalam diameter aerodinamik). Karbon hitam terdiri dari karbon murni dalam beberapa bentuk terkait. Ini terbentuk melalui pembakaran bahan bakar fosil, biofuel, dan biomassa yang tidak lengkap, dan dipancarkan dalam jelaga antropogenik dan yang terjadi secara alami. Karbon hitam menyebabkan morbiditas manusia dan mortalitas prematur.[1]

Dalam klimatologi, karbon hitam adalah agen pemaksa iklim. Karbon hitam menghangatkan Bumi dengan menyerap sinar matahari dan memanaskan atmosfer dan dengan mengurangi albedo ketika disimpan di salju dan es (efek langsung) dan secara tidak langsung melalui interaksi dengan awan, dengan kekuatan total 1,1 W / m2. Karbon hitam tetap di atmosfer hanya beberapa hari hingga minggu, sedangkan karbon dioksida (CO2) memiliki umur atmosfer lebih dari 100 tahun.

Istilah karbon hitam juga digunakan dalam ilmu tanah dan geologi, mengacu pada karbon hitam atmosfer yang diendapkan atau untuk secara langsung memasukkan karbon hitam dari kebakaran vegetasi. Terutama di daerah tropis, karbon hitam di tanah berkontribusi besar terhadap kesuburan karena mampu menyerap nutrisi tanaman yang penting.[2]
