Karakul (Kirgiz: "danau hitam", Tionghoa: 喀拉库勒湖 atau 喀拉湖 - 'Karakuli',[1] adalah sebuah danau yang terletak 196 km dari Kashgar,[2] provinsi Xinjiang, Tiongkok, di County Akto, Prefektur Otonomi Kizilsu Kirgiz di Jalan Raya Karakoram, sebelum mencapai Tashkurgan, Celah Khunjerab di Tiongkok - perbatasan Pakistan dan Sost di Pakistan pada ketinggian 3.600 m,[3] Danau ini adalah danau tertinggi dari dataran tinggi Pamir, dekat persimpangan dari Pamir, Tian Shan dan pegunungan Kunlun. Danau ini dikelilingi oleh pegunungan yang masih tertutup salju sepanjang tahun, tiga puncak tertinggi terlihat dari danau adalah Muztagh Ata (7546 m), Kongur Tagh (7.649 m) dan Kongur Tiube (7.530 m). Danau yang populer di kalangan wisatawan untuk pemandangan yang indah dan kejelasan refleksi dalam air, yang warnanya berkisar dari hijau gelap ke biru dan cahaya biru. Ada dua permukiman suku Kirgiz di sepanjang tepian danau Karakul, sebuah sejumlah kecil yurt sekitar 1 km sebelah timur titik pemberhentian bus dan sebuah desa dengan rumah-rumah batu yang terletak di tepi barat.
