Kakap papua (Lutjanus papuensis) adalah salah satu jenis ikan kakap dalam genus Lutjanus, anggota famili lutjanidae (Ikan Kakap). Ikan ini pertama kali dideskripsikan pada tahun 2013.[1]

Penamaan

Nama papuensis diambil dari provinsi Papua Barat (akhiran latin ensis menunjukkan tempat), karena ikan tersebut banyak ditemukan di sekitar daerah Teluk Cenderawasih.[2]

Kisaran sebaran dan habitat

Ikan ini hanya baru diamati dan tercatat di Papua Barat, Indonesia; Pulau Manus dan Teluk Milne (Papua Nugini); serta di Pulau Santa Isabel, Malaita, dan Georgia Baru di Kepulauan Solomon.[3] Ditemukan berkumpul di terumbu karang pada kedalaman sekitar 6–15 m.[4]

Ciri-ciri fisik

Panjang tubuh terbesar yang tercatat pada kakap papua adalah 90 cm.[5] Ikan ini biasanya berwarna kecokelatan, terkadang kebiruan atau ungu pucat pada tubuh bagian atas, sirip punggung dan sirip ekor. Tubuh bagian bawah dan perutnya berwarna kuning, namun dada dan bagian bawah kepala berwarna jingga kemerahan (kepalanya bersisik berwarna kuning-jingga pucat). Sirip perut dan dubur berwarna kuning cerah. Sirip dadanya bening kekuningan dengan bintik hitam yang besar terletak di pangkal sirip atas. Duri di sirip punggung berjumlah 10, ruas di sirip punggung berjumlah 13. Duri di sirip dubur berjumlah 3, ruas di sirip dubur berjumlah 8. Ruas di sirip dada berjumlah 17, sisik gurat sisinya berjumlah 47–48.[6]
