Serdang Bedagai (abjad Jawi: سردڠ بداڬاي) adalah sebuah kabupaten di Provinsi Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. Ibu kota kabupaten ini terletak di Kecamatan Sei Rampah, serta baru dimekarkan dari Kabupaten Deli Serdang sesuai dengan UU RI Nomor 36 Tahun 2003 pada tanggal 18 Desember 2003 tentang Pembentukan Kabupaten Samosir dan Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai pada masa pemerintahan Presiden Megawati Soekarnoputri. Berdasarkan data Badan Pusat Statistik kabupaten Serdang Bedagai tahun 2021, penduduk kabupaten Serdang Bedagai berjumlah 657.490 jiwa (2020).[1]
Proses lahirnya undang-undang tentang pembentukan Sergai sebagai kabupaten pemekaran merujuk pada usulan yang disampaikan melalui Keputusan Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah Provinsi Sumatera Utara Nomor 18/K/2002 tanggal 21 Agustus 2002 tentang Persetujuan Pemekaran Kabupaten Deli Serdang.
Kemudian Keputusan Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah Kabupaten Deli Serdang Nomor 26/K/DPRD/2003 tanggal 10 Maret 2003 tentang Persetujuan Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah Kabupaten Deli Serdang Atas Usul Rencana Pemekaran Kabupaten Deli Serdang menjadi 2 (dua) Kabupaten (Kabupaten Deli Serdang (Induk), dan Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai. Kabupaten yang luasnya mencapai 1.900,22 kilometer persegi ini, terdiri atas 243 desa/kelurahan yang berada dalam 17 kecamatan.
Berikut ini adalah komposisi anggota DPRD Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai dalam dua periode terakhir.[4][5]
Penduduk kabupaten Serdang Bedagai pada tahun 2020 berjumlah 657.490 jiwa atau 150.281 keluarga dengan kepadatan penduduk rata-rata 346 jiwa per kilometer persegi. Dari jumlah penduduk tersebut, tingkat pengangguran terbuka relatif kecil yakni 14.774 jiwa atau sekitar 3 persen. Sementara keragaman budaya yang ada tergambar dari multi etnis yang ada, yakni Melayu, Batak Toba, Batak Simalungun, Jawa, Batak Karo, Batak Angkola, Batak Mandailing, Minangkabau, Banjar, Aceh, Nias dan Tionghoa-Indonesia. Sementara Agama yang dianut oleh penduduk Serdang Bedagai yakni Islam 80,98%, Kristen 16,95%(Protestan 14,00%, Katolik 2,95%), Buddha 1,92%,Hindu 0,13%,Konghucu 0,02%

Demi mendukung keragaman budaya yang ada, Pemerintah Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai telah membentuk kampung-kampung budaya di beberapa kecamatan bagi suku-suku yang ada, seperti Kampung budaya Jawa di Kampung Ibus, Sei Rampah, Kampung budaya Melayu di Desa Pekan Tanjung Beringin Kecamatan Tanjung Beringin, dan Kampung budaya Banjar di Desa Lubuk Cemara Kecamatan Perbaungan. Selain itu sedang direncanakan Kampung budaya Bali di Kecamatan Pegajahan dan Kampung budaya Batak di Kecamatan Dolok Masihul yang ditargetkan akan diresmikan pada tahun 2021.[6]
Potensi terbesar yang dimiliki Sergai adalah persawahan yang memroduksi 354.355 ton gabah dari luas lahan 68.967 hektare pada tahun 2003. Produksi ini surplus 134.115 ton yang didistribusikan ke berbagai daerah, disusul oleh ubi kayu 272.173 ton. karakteristik udara serdang bedagai adalah:
