Kabupaten Bone Bolango adalah sebuah kabupaten di Provinsi Gorontalo, Indonesia. Kabupaten ini merupakan hasil pemekaran Kabupaten Gorontalo tahun 2003. Pada waktu dimekarkan Kabupaten Bone Bolango hanya terdiri atas 4 wilayah kecamatan, yaitu: Bone Pantai, Kabila, Suwawa, dan Tapa.
Sejarah
Bertitik tolak amanah Undang-Undang Nomor 22 Tahun 1999 tentang Otonomi Daerah serta mengingat Undang-Undang Nomor 38 Tahun 2000 tentang terbentuknya Provinsi Gorontalo yang kala itu hanya memiliki 3 daerah, sementara idealnya minimal memiliki 5 kabupaten atau kota.
Maka atas semangat dan aspirasi seluruh kalangan masyarakat di 4 kecamatan yang terdapat di Kabupaten Gorontalo masing‐masing Kecamatan Suwawa, Kabila, Tapa dan Bonepantai dibawah naungan Komite Solidaritas Pembentukan Kabupaten Baru (KSPKB) yang berusaha, berjuang menjadikan 4 kecamatan ini untuk menjadi suatu daerah kabupaten.
Sedangkan tepat pada tanggal 25 Februari 2003 diresmikan Kabupaten Bone Bolango sebagai kabupaten yang keempat di Provinsi Gorontalo sesuai amanat Undang-Undang Nomor 6 Tahun 2003 tentang pembentukan Kabupaten Pohuwato dan Kabupaten Bone Bolango di Provinsi Gorontalo.
Provinsi Gorontalo adalah satu kesatuan masyarakat yang kukuh walaupun terbagi‐ bagi dalam beberapa daerah yang sejak dulu kala dikenal dengan sebutan Limo Lopahalaa yang berarti lima bersaudara, serikat dari lima kerajaan yaitu:
Suwawa sebagai kedudukan ibukota Kabupaten Bone Bolango.
Limboto sebagai kedudukan ibukota Kabupaten Gorontalo.
Atingola salah satu kecamatan di Kabupaten Gorontalo Utara yang baru terbentuk.
Boalemo sebagai Kabupaten Boalemo adalah suatu masyarakat hukum dan persaudaraan atau perserikatan dari kerajaan kerajaan menurut tata negara adat Gorontalo.

Secara geografis, Kabupaten Bone Bolango terletak antara 00° 18’ 25” – 00° 48’ 21” LU dan 123° 03’ 41” – 123° 33’ 06” BT.
Kabupaten Bone Bolango memiliki proporsi wilayah kurang lebih 16,24% dari luas wilayah Provinsi Gorontalo. Wilayah Kabupaten Bone Bolango ini dilalui oleh beberapa Daerah Aliran Sungai (DAS). DAS terbesar yang melalui wilayah tersebut adalah DAS Bone dan DAS Bulango.
Dimana Kecamatan yang dilalui adalah Kecamatan Suwawa, Kecamatan Kabila dan Kecamatan Tapa. Luas DAS ini adalah ± 265.000 Ha dengan panjang sungai utama 100 Km yang bermuara ke Teluk Tomini. Sedangkan untuk pemenuhan kebutuhan air bersih kebutuhan sehari-hari masyarakat, diperoleh melalui air tanah galian dengan kedalaman 5-10 meter.
Kabupaten Bone Bolango terdiri dari 18 kecamatan, 5 kelurahan, dan 160 Desa. Pada tahun 2017, Luas wilayahnya mencapai 1.984,31 km² dan jumlah penduduk 160.154 jiwa dengan sebaran penduduk 81 jiwa/km².[9][10]

Disamping itu, Kabupaten Bone Bolango terdiri atas 5 kelurahan dan 160 desa dengan jumlah penduduk 159.581 jiwa (berdasarkan DAK2 Tahun 2012). Luas wilayahnya adalah 1.984,31 km, sehingga daerah ini memiliki tingkat kepadatan penduduk sekitar 80,42 jiwa/km2.
