Joseph L. French adalah seorang tokoh di bidang psikologi pendidikan. Beliau memperoleh gelar BS (1949) dan MS (1950) dari Universitas Illinois di kota Normal, dan gelar Ed.D(1957) dibidang psikologi pendidikan dan pengukuran dari Universitas Nebraska. Beliau bergabung pada fakultas pendidikan khusus dan psikologi pendidikan di Universitas Pennsylvania pada tahun 1964.
