Joseon Mu-ak adalah judul film hitam putih bisu Jepang tahun 1931.[1][2]

Film ini merupakan rekaman pendek untuk pertama kalinya yang memperlihatkan tari-tarian istana Korea khas Dinasti Joseon.[2] Pada saat perekaman berlangsung, Korea dalam status jajahan Jepang.

Rekaman ini merupakan informasi yang berharga tentang kebudayaan Korea, terutama dalam studi mengenai kesenian istana Joseon yang nyaris punah pada masa penjajahan.

Sejarah dan isi rekaman

Film ini berisi rekaman tari-tari istana Dinasti Joseon (jeongjae) yang dipentaskan di Biwon Istana Changdeok, sekitar bulan Juni 1931.[1]

Pada tahun 1930, Putra Mahkota Yeongchin kembali ke Korea. Kedatangannya disambut dengan pertunjukkan tari-tarian oleh para penari laki-laki istana (mudong). Pada saat itu, Gubernur Jendral Jepang yang mengontrol Korea sedang menghapuskan budaya dan tradisi istana Joseon. Namun begitu pada tahun berikutnya (20 Juni 1931), pengajar musik istana Jepang bernama Hisao Tanabe (1883‑1984), melakukan perekaman terhadap tari-tarian istana Joseon dalam bentuk film.[2] Film ini disumbangkan kepada Korean Cultural Service pada tahun 1979.[2]

Film ini terdiri dari 3 reel tape film 35 mm berjudul lengkap "Joseon Mu-ak dari Keluarga Kerajaan Yi". Para penari yang berusia sekitar 20-an tahun bernama Kim Cheon-heung, Sung Kyung Rin dan Lee Sung Kyung adalah mudong yang dibina sekolah musik istana Yiwangjik Aak-bu (이왕직아악부).[2]
