John Paul Cusack (/ˈkjuːsæk/; lahir 28 Juni 1966)[1] adalah seorang aktor, produser, penulis skenario dan aktivis politik asal Amerika Serikat. Dia mulai berakting dalam film pada era tahun 1980-an dan sejak itu membintangi lebih dari 80 film, termasuk Sixteen Candles (1984), Tapeheads (1988), Say Anything... Kehidupan Awal

Antara tahun 2005 dan 2009, Cusack menulis blog untuk The Huffington Post, yang mencakup wawancara dengan Naomi Klein. Cusack mendukung Senator Bernie Sanders dalam pencalonan presiden 2016 dan 2020.[21][22] Dia adalah anggota dari Democratic Socialists of America.

Pada Mei 2020, Cusack merekam protes George Floyd di Chicago di media sosial ketika dia diserang oleh polisi dengan tongkat dan kemudian disemprot merica.[23]

Konflik Israel-Palestina

Selama Konflik Israel–Gaza 2014, Cusack mendukung orang-orang Palestina di media sosial.[24] Dia men-tweet dari sejumlah artikel pro-Gaza.[25] Satu tweet berbunyi, "Mengebom orang yang tidak bisa melarikan diri bukan [sic] pertahanan - tidak berarti mendukung Hamas berarti melawan pembunuhan sebagai solusi untuk masalah politik."

Pada tahun 2018, setelah Lorde membatalkan pertunjukan di Israel setelah adanya permintaan dari gerakan BDS, Cusack termasuk di antara lebih dari seratus penulis, aktor, sutradara dan musisi yang menandatangani surat yang membela kebebasan hati nurani Lorde.[26][27]

Pada Juni 2019, Cusack menulis tweet yang menampilkan gambar kepalan tangan besar dengan Bintang Daud biru menghancurkan kerumunan kecil orang di samping kutipan yang salah diartikan kepada Voltaire : "Untuk mempelajari siapa yang memerintah anda, cukup cari tahu siapa anda bukan diizinkan untuk mengkritik".[28][29][30] Kutipan tersebut sebenarnya adalah komentar dari supremasi kulit putih dan neo-Nazi Kevin Alfred Strom.[31][32] Dalam tweet, Cusack menambahkan kata-kata "Ikuti uangnya." Dia kemudian menyalahkannya pada "bot", lalu membela diri, lalu meminta maaf dan menghapus tweet tersebut.[28][30][31][33][34]

Dia anti-perang, men-tweet, "Menjadi anti-perang - adalah pro-pasukan - pro-manusia".[35][36] Pada tanggal 15 Oktober 2023, Cusack menghadiri Pawai Pro-Palestina di Chicago, dan memposting di Twitter tentang pengalamannya di rapat umum tersebut. Kehidupan Pribadi

Cusack berlatih kickboxing di bawah arahan mantan juara dunia kickboxing, Benny Urquidez selama lebih dari dua puluh tahun. Dia mulai berlatih di bawah arahan Urquidez sebagai persiapan untuk perannya dalam Say Anything... dan memegang peringkat sabuk hitam level enam dalam sistem Kickboxing Ukidokan Urquidez.[38]

Pada Maret 2008, polisi menangkap Emily Leatherman di luar rumah Cusack di Malibu, California karena menguntitnya. Pada 10 Oktober 2008, Leatherman tidak mengajukan kontes dan menerima masa percobaan lima tahun dan konseling psikiatri wajib, dan diperintahkan untuk menjauh dari Cusack, rumahnya, dan bisnisnya selama sepuluh tahun kedepan.[39]

Ketika ditanya pada tahun 2009 mengapa dia tidak pernah menikah, Cusack menjawab, "masyarakat tidak memberi tahu saya apa yang harus saya lakukan."[40]
