Isabel Wijsen


Isabel Wijsen adalah aktivis iklim dari Indonesia. Sebagai upaya memerangi sampah Isabel dengan programnya yaitu Bye Bye Plastic Bags.[1]

Tentang Isabel

Pulau Bali terkenal dengan destinasi wisata sampai ke manca negara, namun dibalik itu semua masalah terbesar yang dihadapi pulau Dewata ini adalah sampah plastik.[2] Bahkan masuk pada pencemar plastik laut terbesar kedua di dunia, bahkan menyumbang 10 persen polusi plastik laut, pengunjung Bali sendiri setiap harinya membuang sampah 5000 ton dengan 30 persen sampah plastik.[3][4] Tokoh yang menjadi inspirasi Isabel untuk mewujudkan lingkungan yang bersih adalah Nelson Mandela, Lady Diana, dan Mahatma Gandhi. Baginya, usia muda harus dimanfaatkan untuk membuat sesuatu yang berguna.[1] Isabbel berasal dari Bali, untuk mewujudkan mimpinya menjadikan dunia bebas sampah plastik, ia bersama-sama dengan saudara perempuannya, Melati.[5] Menurut Isabel, pandemi yang melanda kini memungkinkan untuk melakukan pergerakan lebih dalam upaya melindungi planet kita.[1]

Capaian Isabel

Usahanya diawali dari pengumpulan tanda tangan untuk menarik perhatian pemerintah setempat, namun hingga dua tahun usahanya belum membuahkan hasil, masih belum dapat bertemu dengan gubernur Bali. Saat ini Isabel Wijsen telah merekrut 30 siswa untuk menjadi tim sukarelawan yang menhatur pembersihan desa dan pantai dan mengontrol penggunaan kantong plastik toko-toko serta mendorong pendidik untuk tidak menggunakan plastik.[4]

Setelah sukses program Bye-Bye Plastic Bags yang didirikan pada 2019,[4] pada 16 November 2017 Isabel mendapat penghargaan Bambi di Berlin, Jerman.[1] Penghargaan tak berhenti sampai disitu, pada 2017 Isabel diundang ke New York untuk menghadiri peringatan Word Oceans Day 2017 sebagai pembicara di PBB.[1] Hingga saat ini Isabel terus konsisten dalam mengkampanyekan dunia bebas plastik dan melawan polusi plastik, upayanya membuahkan hasil, Juni lalu semua bahan berbasis plastik dilarang di Bali dan namanya masuk dalam "20 orang yang harus diperhatikan pada tahun 2020".[6] Pada 17 Januari 2020, Isabel menghadiri Konferensi Perubahan Iklim di Kochi yang diselenggarakan oleh inisiatif berbasis di Thiruvananthapuram 'Bring Back Green'.[6] Isabel dan Melati bahkan berniat untuk memperluas tim Bye Bye Plastic Bags ke Jakarta dan seluruh dunia termasuk Australia, Singapura, Filipina, Myanmar, Cina, Meksiko, dan Amerika Serikat.[4]
