Irsan Arifin

Mochamad Irsan Arifin, M.A. adalah seorang pelatih pemain bulu tangkis asal Indonesia yang aktif pada akhir dekade 1960-an. Ia juga merupakan pegawai Departemen Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan dengan jabatan terakhir Kepala Pusat Penyegaran Jasmani.[1]

Masa muda dan pendidikan

Mochamad Irsan Arifin dilahirkan di Payakumbuh, Sumatera Barat pada tangal 16 November 1923. Ia merupakan anak pertama dari tujuh bersaudara dalam keluarga Minangkabau.[2] Sang ayah adalah dokter lulusan STOVIA. Adik dari ayahnya bernama Abdoel Moeis.[3][4] Pada masa pendudukan Jepang, ayahnya meninggal dunia di Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo.

Irsan Arifin menamatkan pendidikan di HIS dan MULO. Setelah itu, ia bergabung dengan Koning Willem III School di Batavia dan Akademi Pendidikan Jasmani di Bandung. Sesudah itu, ia memperoleh gelar M.A. dari Universitas Michigan, Amerika Serikat pada 1962.[butuh rujukan]

Pernikahan

Irsan menikah dengan Siti Hanidah (Ida) Datuk Tumangguang pada 23 November 1950 di Bandung. Istrinya merupakan cucu dari adik ayahnya yang bernama Zubahdah. Pasangan ini dikaruniai dua anak.[1][2]

Kematian

Sejak tahun 1968, Irsan mengidap sakit jantung sehingga tingkat kesehatannya menurun. Ia meninggal dunia pada 8 Desember 1970 di Bangkok, Thailand saat bersiap mengikuti pembukaan Pesta Olahraga Asia ke-6. Usai disemayamkan di KBRI di Bangkok, jenazahnya diterbangkan ke Indonesia untuk dikebumikan di Taman Makam Pahlawan Cikutra, Bandung. Pasca-kematiannya, PBSI menunjuk pelatih Stanley Gouw.[butuh rujukan]

Christian Hadinata mengenang Irsan sebagai pelatih yang "cermat menganalisa titik kemampuan pemain". Beberapa pemain bulu tangkis yang pernah dibina oleh Irsan yakni Tahir Djide, Rudy Hartono, dan Minarni Soedaryanto.[1]
