Horror punk (juga dikenal sebagai horror rock) adalah genre musik yang memadukan suara proto-gothic dan punk rock dengan citra dan lirik yang tidak wajar dan penuh kekerasan yang sering dipengaruhi oleh film horor dan film fiksi ilmiah Film kelas B ini mirip dan terkadang tumpang tindih dengan death rock, meskipun death rock lebih condong ke arah suara rock gothic atmosfer sementara punk horor condong ke arah suara doo-wop dan rockabilly yang dipengaruhi tahun 1950-an. Musik punk horor biasanya lebih agresif dan melodis daripada death rock. Banyak tindakan menggunakan pendekatan lidah-di-pipi, lucu atau satir untuk genre.[1][2]

The Misfits dan vokalis pertama mereka Glenn Danzig diakui sebagai nenek moyang horor punk.[3] Band-band seperti the Undead (didirikan oleh mantan gitaris Misfits Bobby Steele), Screaming Dead, the Damned, the Cramps, T.S.O.L., 45 Grave, dan Rosemary's Babies juga dianggap sebagai band punk horor klasik. Tindakan yang lebih baru termasuk Murder City Devils, Blitzkid, One-Eyed Doll, The Rosedales, Mister Monster dan beberapa rilisan dari AFI, Tiger Army dan Alkaline Trio.[2]

Sejarah

Horror punk awalnya melihat peningkatan di akhir 70-an hingga awal 80-an bersamaan dengan mempopulerkan band The Misfits,[4] yang kemudian menjadi salah satu band punk yang paling banyak dipasarkan bersama dengan The Sex Pistols.[1] Meskipun ini adalah saat pertama kali Horror punk dipopulerkan, inspirasi untuk suaranya dapat ditelusuri kembali ke tahun 1950-an.[1] The Misfits merilis album pertama mereka pada tahun 1982, menyiapkan panggung untuk interpretasi modern dari subgenre. Kemudian, setelah band bubar, mantan anggota akan membuat musik dengan gaya yang sama.
