"Homeward Bound" adalah lagu folk Amerika yang ditulis oleh Paul Simon untuk Simon and Garfunkel, diproduseri Bob Johnston dan direkam tanggal 14 Desember 1965. Lagu ini masuk dalam Billboard Hot 100 Chart pada tanggal 12 Februari 1966, dengan posisi di nomor 5 dan terus berada di sana selama 12 minggu.

Sejarah

Lagu ini menceritakan kerinduannya kepada pacarnya Kathy Chitty di Brentwood, Essex, Inggris, dan juga kampung halamannya di Amerika Serikat. Simon sedang berada di Brentwood, dan menulis lagu ini di Stasiun Ditton (12 mil dari Liverpool) saat lama menunggu kereta berikutnya. Ketika itu ia baru kembali dari Widnes, dimana ia mengadakan pertunjukkan. Lagu ini memiliki makna ganda: ingin pergi ke Brentwood, tetapi juga ingin pulang kampung ke Amerika.

Tapi, Simon menceritakan tentang lagu ini dalam wawancara dengan majalah SongTalk pada tahun 1990: "Ini ditulis di Liverpool pada saat saya sedang berjalan-jalan. Apa yang saya suka tentang lagu itu karena ia merupakan kenangan yang merekam jelas Stasiun Liverpool dan jalanan Liverpool serta kelab tempat saya tampil dan saya pada umur 22. Tampak seperti snapshot, foto zaman dahulu.

Itulah yang saya suka dari lagu itu namun saya juga tidak terlalu menyukainya . Pertama-tama, itu bukan judul yang asli. Itu adalah salah satu masalahnya. Akan begitu selamanya. Tidak, lagu-lagu pertama saya tidak bisa mengatakan saya sangat menyukainya. Tapi, ada sesuatu yang polos dan manis dan saya harus bilang itulah yang saya suka dari lagu itu. Mereka tidak marah. Dan itu artinya saya tidak marah atau kurang senang. Dan itulah kenangan tentang waktu itu: tentang saat bersenang-senang. Saat itu adalah waktu yang paling menyenangkan dari hidup saya, saya pikir, sampai akhir-akhir ini, 5 tahun terakhir dan seterusnya, 6 tahun... Itu menjadi waktu terbaik dalam hidup saya. Tapi sebelum itu, saya bisa mengatakan bahwa itu dulu."
