Hidangan Uruguay merupakan perpaduan masakan dari beberapa negara Eropa, khususnya makanan Mediterania dari Spanyol, Italia, Portugal dan Perancis. Pengaruh lain pada masakan berasal dari imigrasi dari negara-negara seperti Jerman dan Skotlandia. Gastronomi Uruguay adalah hasil dari imigrasi, bukan masakan lokal Amerindian, karena gelombang imigrasi akhir abad ke-19 dan awal abad ke-20, yang sebagian besar adalah orang Italia.

Sejarah

Akar masakan Uruguay saat ini dapat ditelusuri kembali ke ekonomi subsistensi yang diadopsi oleh para gaucho, dan didukung oleh pertanian subsistensi yang ditanamkan oleh Spanyol dan Criollos pada awal penjajahan Eropa. Penduduk asli tidak tinggal di satu tempat, dan Uruguay digunakan sebagai pelabuhan terpencil, dengan sedikit serangan untuk berburu harta karun.[1]
