Green Square, New South Wales

Green Square adalah sebuah distrik di kota terdalam Sydney di pinggiran Alexandria, Zetland, Waterloo dan Beaconsfield. Terletak 4 km di selatan distrik bisnis sentral Sydney dan bagian dari wilayah pemerintah lokal City of Sydney.

Pusat distrik Green Square ada di persimpangan Bourke Rd, Botany Rd dan O'Riordan St. Stasiun kereta api Green Square di Airport and East Hills Line terletak di persimpangan ini.

Daerah ini didominasi industri kecil, dengan sedikit pembangunan penghunian berkepadatan tinggi. Daerah ini masuk dalam rencana on-again off-again untuk pembaruan perkotaan oleh dewan City of Sydney. Rencana ini menempatkan Green Square sebagai rumah bagi 33.000 jiwa dan lebih dari 28.000 jiwa diperkirakan bekerja di daerah ini pada tahun 2021.

Bulan Desember 2007, pembangunan dimulai di pusat kota Green Square di persimpangan Botany Road, dan O'Riordan dan Bourke Street, dengan peruntuhan Waterloo Incinerator di tempat ini.[1]

Sejarah

Green Square mengambil namanya dari sebuah taman kecil yang dinamai tahun 1938 untuk menghormati Frederick Green, seorang anggota parlemen dari Partai Buruh dan promotor industri dan pekerjaan lokal yang pernah menjadi wali kota Alexandria.[2]
