Gorong-gorong kecil di bawah jalan

Gorong-gorong adalah bangunan yang dipakai untuk membawa aliran air (saluran irigasi atau pembuang) melewati bawah jalan air lainnya (biasanya saluran), di bawah jalan, atau jalan kereta api. Gorong-gorong juga digunakan sebagai jembatan ukuran kecil, digunakan untuk mengalirkan kecil atau sebagai bagian drainase ataupun selokan jalan.

Konstruksi gorong-gorong

Gorong-gorong dapat dibuat dari berbagai jenis material dapat dari baja, polyvinyl chlorida (PVC) atau dari beton.

Gorong-gorong baja

Gorong-gorong baja biasanya menggunakan Corrugated Steel Pipe,[1] kalau diterjemahkan secara bebas berarti Pipa Baja Bergelombang. Gorong gorong baja ini terutama dari jenis Multi Plate Pipe telah menjadi alternative penggantikan jembatan kayu dan box culvert beton, hal ini disebabkan gorong – gorong baja memiliki beberapa keuntungan dibanding dengan penggunaan kayu ataupun beton, di antara keuntungan tersebut antara lain:

  1. Harga murah
  2. Waktu pengerjaan cepat
  3. Instalasi yang mudah, tidak memerlukan tenaga ahli khusus
  4. Memiliki umur pakai yang panjang (bisa sampai 25 tahun)
  5. Mudah dalam pengangkutan
  6. Bisa dipindahkan dari satu titik ke titik lainnya apabila sudah tidak digunakan.
  7. Tahan terhadap gempa

Gorong-gorong PVC biasanya digunakan untuk gorong-gorong dengan ukuran kecil.

Gorong-gorong beton

Gorong-gorong beton disebut juga culvert box adalah gorong-gorong cor di pabrik (precast) ataupun dicor ditempat, dimensi tergantung kepada debit air yang akan dialirkan melalui gorong-gorong. Gorong-gorong yang dicor di pabrik dapat utuh dengan bentuk profil bulat (buis beton) atau persegi ataupun trapesium, ataupun modular yang terpisah atas dengan bawah.
