Golongan darah hh

Golongan darah h/h, juga dikenal dengan sebutan Oh[1] atau golongan darah Bombay, adalah golongan darah yang sangat langka. Fenotipe darah ini pertama kali ditemukan di Bombay (Mumbai) di India oleh Dr. Y. M. Bhende pada tahun 1952. Serum golongan darah ini mengandung antibodi yang bereaksi dengan semua fenotipe ABO normal. Sel darah merahnya tampaknya tidak memiliki antigen pada semua golongan darah ABO dan memiliki antigen tambahan yang sebelumnya tidak diketahui.

Individu dengan golongan darah Bombay tidak memiliki antigen H yang ada pada golongan darah O. Maka dari itu, antigen A atau antigen B tidak dapat diproduksi di sel darah merah mereka, karena antigen A dan B terbuat dari antigen H. Maka dari itu, orang yang memiliki golongan darah Bombay dapat menyumbangkan darah untuk pemilik golongan darah ABO (kecuali jika ada faktor lainnya yang membuat darah mereka tidak cocok, sepeerti sistem golongan darah Rh), tetapi mereka tidak dapat menerima sumbangan darah dari pemilik golongan darah ABO (yang selalu mengandung antigen A, B, atau H).

Fenotipe ini sangat sangat langka dan hanya ada pada 0,0004% populasi manusia (sekitar 4 dari satu juta), walaupun di beberapa tempat (seperti Mumbai) persentasenya dapat naik hingga mencapai 0,01% (1 dari 10.000). Akibatnya, jika pemilik golongan darah Bombay membutuhkan transfusi darah untuk menyelamatkan nyawa mereka, darah dengan jenis hh sangat sulit didapat. Mereka yang ingin berjaga-jaga dapat menyimpan darah mereka sendiri secara berkala sebelumnya.
