Garam dan Terang

Garam dan Terang adapah sebuah metafora yang digunakan oleh Yesus pada saat Kotbah di Bukit, salah satu pengajaran utama Yesus tentang moralitas dan kedisiplinan.^[1] Metafora tersebut muncul dalam Matius 5:13–16 menyusul Ucapan bahagia dan merujuk kepada ekspektasi dari para murid.^[2]

Tema utama dari Matius 5:13–16 adalah janji-janji dan ekspektasi menyusul janji-janji dari bagian pertama.^[2]

Ayat pertama dari kutipan tersebut memperkenalkan frase "garam dunia":

Kamu adalah garam dunia. Jika garam itu menjadi tawar, dengan apakah ia diasinkan? Tidak ada lagi gunanya selain dibuang dan diinjak orang

Ayat terakhir merujuk kepada perumpaman pelita dan ukuran, yang tercantum dalam Lukas 8:16–18 dan Terang Dunia tercantum dalam Yohanes 8:12.

Kamu adalah terang dunia. Kota yang terletak di atas gunung tidak mungkin tersembunyi. Lagipula orang tidak menyalakan pelita lalu meletakkannya di bawah gantang, melainkan di atas kaki dian sehingga menerangi semua orang di dalam rumah itu. Demikianlah hendaknya terangmu bercahaya di depan orang, supaya mereka melihat perbuatanmu yang baik dan memuliakan Bapamu yang di sorga.
