Ficus retusa

Ara Jejawi (Ficus retusa) adalah spesies tumbuhan dalam genus Ficus, asli Kepulauan Melayu dan wilayah floristik Malesia. Nama spesies Ficus retusa telah banyak salah diterapkan pada Ficus microcarpa.[2][3][4]

Ficus retusa dan Ficus microcarpa adalah dua spesies yang berbeda. Perbedaannya terlihat jelas pada bentuk dan ukuran daunnya. Ficus retusa memiliki daun sepanjang 15–20 cm, sedangkan Ficus microcarpa kurang dari 12 cm (jarang 15 cm). Selain itu, daun Ficus retusa lebih tebal dan kaku, dan memiliki ujung daun yang tumpul.

Hingga saat ini masih banyak orang yang menganggap Ficus microcarpa dan keturunannya adalah Ficus retusa, termasuk:

  • Beringin Elegant (Ficus microcarpa cv.)

Keterangan

Ficus retusa tumbuh sebagai semak atau pohon besar dengan tajuk lebar, yang dapat mencapai ketinggian 10 meter.[5] Kulit batangnya halus, berwarna putih atau abu-abu muda, dengan diameter mencapai 1 meter. Daunnya berbentuk bulat telur yang biasanya memiliki panjang lebih dari 10 cm dan tersusun secara spiral. Buahnya berdiameter sekitar 1 cm, dan muncul di ujung cabang. Awalnya berwarna hijau, kemudian berubah menjadi oranye dan merah saat matang, lalu berubah menjadi coklat dan bertekstur keras seperti kayu.

Ficus retusa adalah pohon yang tangguh, ia mentolelir kekeringan dan tumbuh optimal pada area yang dekat dengan sumber air. Pohon ini dapat ditemukan tidak jauh dari induknya, bijinya bisa berkecambah disela-sela batu, tetapi jarang ditanah. Di alam liar, Ficus retusa tumbuh pada ketinggian 0–500 m dpl.[butuh rujukan]
