Eusthenopteron (from bahasa Yunani: εὖ eû, 'baik', bahasa Yunani: σθένος sthénos, 'kuat', and bahasa Yunani: πτερόν pteron 'sayap' atau 'sirip')[2] adalah genus punah dari ikan sarcopterygii (ikan bersirip lobus) tetrapodomorpha prasejarah yang mendapat status yang ikonik karena hubungan dekatnya dengan tetrapoda. Rekonstruksi awal dari hewan ini menunjukkannya muncul ke daratan; namun paleontolog sekarang setuju bahwa hewan ini merupakan hewan laut obligat.[3] Genus Eusthenopteron diketahui dari beberapa spesies yang hidup pada periode Devon Akhir, sekitar 385 juta tahun lalu. Eusthenopteron pertamakali dideskripsikan oleh Joseph Frederick Whiteaves pada 1881, sebagai bagian dari koleksi besar ikan dari Miguasha, Quebec.[4] Sekitar 2000 spesimen ikan ini dikumpulkan dari Miguasha, salahsatunya menjadi objek studi mendetail dan menjadi fokus pada beberapa jurnal ilmiah dari dekade 1940-an ke 1990-an pada paleoikhtiolog Erik Jarvik.[5]

Eusthenopteron adalah anggota dari Tristichopteridae dengan ukuran tubuh sedang ke besar. E. foordi diperkirakan memiliki panjang tubuh lebih dari 1.5 m, sementara E. jenkinsi kemungkinan mencapai panjang 2.1 m.[1][6]

Bukti catatan fosil dari sumsum tulang berasal dari Eusthenopteron, yang mungkin mewakili kemunculan pertama sumsum tulang pada tetrapoda.[7]
