Dresin

Dresin adalah sebuah kendaraan yang berjalan di rel berukuran kecil yang umumnya dikendarai oleh awak perkeretaapian atau pengguna jalur. Kendaraan ini bertujuan untuk mengangkut awak atau material yang diperlukan untuk inspeksi maupun perawatan prasarana perkeretaapian. Kendaraan ini juga dipakai sebagai tujuan wisata di beberapa tempat.

Istilah dresin diturunkan dari penemunya, yakni Baron Karl Drais yang berasal dari Jerman. Ia membuat kendaraan Laufmaschine (bahasa Jerman untuk "mesin pelari") pada 1817 yang kemudian disebut sebagai Draisine di Jerman (vélocipède atau draisienne di Prancis) oleh media. Kendaraan tersebut merupakan dipercayai sebagai pendahulu sepeda yang dikenal selama ini.^[1] Pada kemudian hari, istilah dresin hanya digunakan pada penemuan yang berjalan di rel dan kendaraan-kendaraan sejenis, meskipun tidak ditenagai manusia. Karena ukuran dan beratnya yang kecil, kendaraan ini dapat diangkat dari rel sehingga tidak mengganggu lalu lintas kereta.
