Draft Day adalah judul film bergenre drama olahraga produksi OddLot Entertainment dan Montecito Picture Company yang dirilis pada tahun 2014. Film ini disutradarai oleh Ivan Reitman, dengan bintang-bintang antara lain Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, Sam Elliott, Tom Welling, Frank Langella, Ellen Burstyn, Denis Leary, Chadwick Boseman, Sean Combs. Draft Day memaparkan rahasia dapur sebuah tim football bagaimana mendapatkan pelatih atau pemain terbaik yang tidak banyak diketahui oleh para penggemarnya.[1][2][3] [4]

Latar belakang

Film Draft Day menceritakan seorang manajer tim football di National Football League (NFL), Cleveland Browns, Sonny Weaver (Kevin Costner). Pada suatu hari, Sonny mendapatkan kesempatan untuk menyelamatkan timnya. Dia harus membangun kembali timnya dan membawanya berprestasi melalui Draft Day NFL 2014. Padahal, dia baru saja memecat ayahnya dari jabatan pelatih tim itu, dan lalu meninggal dunia seminggu sebelumnya. Meski masih dalam keadaan berduka setelah kehilangan ayahnya yang juga merupakan legenda tim football itu, Sonny pun diberi kesempatan oleh pemilik tim football, Anthony Molina (Frank Langella) untuk menciptakan sebuah berita besar di bursa transfer pemain. Meski sempat menolak tawaran pemain baru dari manajer Seattle Seahawks, Tom Michaels (Patrick St. Esprit), namun Sonny pun menerima tawaran itu demi berita besar yang diminta bosnya. Transfer pemain bernama Bo Callahan (Josh Pence) dalam tiga putaran pertama itu sama seperti rencana tiga tahun dari Seahawks. Makanya, keputusan Michaels itu menyebabkan kemarahan para penggemarnya, karena mereka ingin sang pemain bergabung dengan tim idola mereka. Para penggemar Seahawks pun menyampaikan kekesalan mereka di media sosial, dan menuntut pemilik tim, Walt Gordon (Chi McBride) untuk memecat Michaels. Sedangkan Sonny, di tengah-tengah usahanya, tiba-tiba dia mendapat kejutan bahwa kekasihnya, Ali Parker (Jennifer Garner) telah hamil. Padahal, dia harus menyembunyikan hubungannya itu dari semua staf Cleveland Browns, karena sang kekasih juga bekerja di tim sebagai pengacara yang mengatur kontrak para pemain. Tidak hanya itu, Sonny juga harus menghadapi perselisihan dengan pelatihnya, Vince Penn (Denis Leary) soal transfer pemain. Sonny harus segera memutuskan apa yang harus dilakukannya. Apakah dia rela mengorbankan seseorang demi mendapatkan kembali kekuatan timnya, atau memilih pemain dari ratusan anak muda yang selalu bermimpin untuk membela Cleveland di NFL.
