Douglas Fairbanks Senior (nama sebenarnya Douglas Ullman) adalah seorang pemeran dan pemain sandiwara asal Amerika Serikat yang memulai karier di Kota New York pada tahun 1914.[1] Ia lahir di Denver pada 23 Mei 1883 dan meninggal di New York pada tanggal 12 Desember 193.[1] Setelah lama menjadi pemain sandiwara, Ia direkrut oleh sutradara David Wark Griffith untuk menjadi aktor film bisu.[1] Selanjutnya Ia berteman dengan Charles Chaplin dan bersama-sama mendirikan United Artistis.[1]

Karier awal

Douglas Fairbanks telah mulai berakting sejak masih muda di beberapa panggung teater di Denver dengan memerankan Summer Stock di teater Elitch Gardens, dan bertambah populer pada usia remaja.[2] Ia sekolah di Denver East High School, dan dikeluarkan karena sifatnya yang nakal.[2] Perjalanan akademisnya berlanjut ke bangku kuliah dengan memasuki Sekolah Penambangan Colorado, tetapi tidak ada bukti Ia pernah menghadiri kelas di sekolah tersebut.[2] Terakhir, sempat dikabarkan bahwa Ia masuk Universitas Harvard.[2] Fairbanks pindah ke New York pada awal tahun 1900-an demi mengejar karier aktingnya dan bertemu dengan agen bakat dari Inggris Frederick Warde yang menemukan Fairbanks beraksi di panggung Denver.[2]

Pada tanggal 11 Juli 1907, Fairbanks menikashi Anna Beth Sully, anak perempuan dari industrialis terkenal Daniel J. Sully di Watch Hill, Pulau Rhode.[2] Dari pernikahan mereka berdua, lahir seorang anak bernama Duglas Fairbanks Junior, yang selanjutnya dikenal sebagai aktor.[2] Pada tahun 1915 keluarga Fairbanks pindah ke Los Angeles.[2]
