Dolhareubang

Dolhareubang adalah simbol Pulau Jeju yang berbentuk manusia yang dipahat dari batu.^[1]^[2] Dolhareubang diletakkan di depan rumah, dekat jembatan atau pintu masuk bangunan.^[2] Catatan Tentang Tamna menuliskan bahwa Bupati Jeju Kim Mong-gyu memerintahkan pendirian patung batu di Benteng Jeju pada tahun 1754. Jadi kemungkinan, patung-patung yang tersebar di beberapa tempat sekarang merupakan patung dari Benteng Jeju. Tidak diketahui asal mula dan fungsinya yang asli, namun rakyat Jeju menempatkannya sebagai penjaga dan penolak bala.^[2] Fungsinya dapat dikatakan sebanding dengan jangseung di daratan Korea. Dolhareubang dipahat dari batu basalt membentuk sosok manusia berwajah bulat dengan dua tangan. Dalam Bahasa Jeju, Dolhareubang bermakna "Kakek Batu".^[1] Nama ini baru diberikan pada tahun 1971 saat patung ini secara resmi dijadikan sebagai simbol Pulau Jeju. Di masa lalu Dolhareubang dikenal dengan nama Useokmok, Museokmok, atau Byeoksumeori.^[1] Di seluruh Korea, terdapat sebanyak 47 buah patung Dolhareubang. Dua berada di Istana Gyeongbok dan 45 di tempat asalnya.^[2]
