Diplomasi ping-pong

Diplomasi Ping-pong (Hanzi: 乒乓外交 Pīngpāng wàijiāo) merujuk kepada pertukaran pemain tenis meja (ping-pong) antara Amerika Serikat dan Republik Rakyat Tiongkok (RRT) pada awal 1970an. Diplomasi pingpong pertama terjadi pada tahun 1971 ketika pertandingan seorang pemain pingpong Tiongkok dengan pemain pingpong AS berujung pada keputusan Tiongkok mengundang tim tenis meja AS untuk melakukan pertandingan persahabatan.

Pertandingan tersebut akhirnya berujung pada kunjungan Presiden AS saat itu, Richard Nixon ke Tiongkok pada tahun 1972. Kunjungan ini berlanjut pada terbentuknya ikatan diplomatik antara kedua negara mulai tahun 1979, yang juga mengakhiri isolasi Tiongkok dari dunia luar.

Diplomasi Pingpong merupakan salah satu bentuk dari Diplomasi Multi-jalur (Multitrack Diplomacy).[1]Diplomasi Pingpong dianggap sebagai jalur yang efektif untuk memperbaiki hubungan bilateral antara AS dan Tiongkok yang sempat rusak akibat dari perang dingin.
