Coosje Ayal

Costavina "Coosje" Ayal Nahuwae (15 April 1926 – 28 Maret 2015). Coosje adalah perempuan berkebangsaan Belanda yang dikenal sebagai seorang pejuang perlawanan Korps Pembantu Wanita di Semenanjung Kepala Burung ( Bahasa Indonesia: Kepala Burung , Belanda : Vogelkop , artinya Kepala Burung dalam bahasa Indonesia dan Belanda) atau Semenanjung Doberai Papua Barat selama Perang Dunia II.

Biografi

Costavina Nahuwae lahir pada 15 April 1926 di Titawai, Nusa Laut di Maluku Tengah, Indonesia. Diadopsi oleh bibi dan pamannya yang merupakan pegawai negeri sipil pemerintah kolonial Belanda, ia bersekolah di sekolah Belanda dan belajar bahasa tersebut. Saat Jepang menginvasi Hindia Belanda, pamannya bertugas menyembunyikan persenjataan, amunisi dan perbekalan di hutan. Coosje, pada usia enam belas tahun sudah bergabung dengan kelompok gerilya yang dipimpin oleh Kapten KNIL Johannes Bernardus Herman Willemsz Geeroms dan bertahan di hutan selama tiga puluh bulan bersama 62 orang milisi lainnya. Coosje Ayal berperan sebagai juru masak bagi kelompoknya. Ia juga terkadang merawat yang luka-luka dan menjahitkan pakaian milisi KNIL.

Ketika pasukan Sekutu atau ABDA mendarat dan menguasai Jayapura pada akhir April 1944, mereka mendengar ada kelompok kecil milisi yang tetap bergerilya melawan Jepang di hutan-hutan Manokwari. Akhirnya Sekutu meminta Belanda mencari kelompok ini. Lima bulan kemudian, barulah posisi kelompok Coosje Ayal bisa diketahui. Awal Oktober 1944, mereka pun dibebaskan dan menyisakan 17 orang.

Coosje mengikuti kamp pelatihan perawat di Brisbane, Australia, sebagai prajurit infanteri di Korps Wanita Angkatan Darat Kerajaan Hindia Belanda dan dipromosikan menjadi kopral. Di Brisbane dia juga bertemu dengan tentara Karibia Belanda Henry Evers, yang menjadi suami Coosje pada tahun 1947.

Setelah dua bulan dirawat di rumah sakit di Jayapura, Coosje Ayal pun kemudian diterbangkan ke Australia. Disana, perempuan asal Nusalaut itu mengambil pelatihan keperawatan sebagai seorang prajurit infantri KNIL dan dipromosikan menjadi kopral. Di Brisbane, Ayal juga berjumpa Ayal Henry Evers, seorang prajurit Curacao dan menikah pada 1947.

Selama beberapa waktu lamanya, Coosje Syal dan sang suami kembali ke Nusalaut dan membuka klinik Palang Merah sebelum akhirnya pindah ke Tangerang dan memiliki dua orang anak. Tujuh belas tahun kemudian, keluarga itu pindah ke Belanda. Henry mengirim surat kepada Pangeran Bernhard dengan salinan surat penghargaan istrinya.

Coosje menghabiskan waktunya tinggal di Belanda selama 51 tahun, pada 25 Maret 2015, gerilyawan wanita satu-satunya dalam Perang Dunia II. Coosje menghembuskan nafas terakhirnya pada 28 Maret 2015 di Ridderkerk, Belanda, genap dalam usia 89 tahun. Jenazahnya disemayamkan di pemakaman pahlawan setelah dilaksanakan upacara secara militer di Laurenskerk, Rotterdam pada 4 April 2015.
